Tiny Wilds, set in a beautiful yurt and garden, is a pre-school environment for 3 and 4 year olds. Lead by a qualified early years practitioner and teaching assistant, the children learn through play and have access to moorland, meadows and rivers.
Mighty Wilds is a 3 day home ed group for 4/5 to 8 year olds. Also lead by a qualified early years practitioner, the children learn school curriculum in a much more hands on experience lead way.
-
Generally speaking, Tiny Wilds, is our pre-school setting for age 3 and 4 year olds.
Mighty Wilds, which is split into two ability groups, rather than age groups (Mini Mighties and Mega Mighties) is for school age children from 4/5 to 8 years old.

Upon your first visit to Tiny Wilds and the decision for your child to join our tribe, you can request a home visit from one of our team, to meet your child and understand a little about their home environment. This introduction offers an opportunity to get to know your child where they are most comfortable. We find these encounters give children a sense of security when coming to sessions for the first time, and this also fosters early bonds with the Tiny Wilds team.
We offer as many settling in sessions as your child needs, understanding the importance of a smooth transition into a new setting. If you are unfamiliar with how to settle in a child or would like guidance on what would be best for your child within our setting, we are happy to provide you with advice based on our previous experience with children at differing stages of independence.
At Tiny Wilds we recognise the benefits of a strong attachment between caregiver and child, which links with The Early Years Foundation Stage. It promotes a key-person approach, understanding that children thrive from loving and secure relationships. Your child’s key person will depend on who they naturally gravitate towards, although we may have a staff member in mind.
When children feel happy and settled in their environment, confidence flourishes, giving opportunity for all types of learning. It will be your child’s key person who is responsible for helping to guide learning based on what they feel your child would enjoy and benefit from to progress further. Partnership with parents ensures transparency in your child’s journey and development which supports the fluidity of learning, both at home and Tiny Wilds.

Tiny Wilds morning begins with free flow playing inside the yurt before coming together for our morning circle. This time is a moment for the children to engage in deep breathing, becoming aware and present of the day. During the circle, we explore and share sounds, songs and group activities that encourage children to be creative and free thinking. We ask that you arrive on time for your child to be a part of the circle and that, if arriving late, you please wait to enter the yurt until the end, as disrupting the circle often leads to disengagement for the other children.
-
We encourage the children to play outside in all weather conditions. We want our children to feel free in the decisions they make and the only limiting factor can be what they’re wearing! Although we try to ensure that children go home suitably dressed, invariably children end up messy or muddy throughout the day at Tiny Wilds.

Autumn and Winter months
During the winter we recommend that you bring warm clothes as well as waterproofs and welly boots. It is always better to have lots of layers which can be removed! If possible, it would be great to have a set of waterproofs/wellies that can be kept in the yurt to avoid forgetting rainy day items.
Warmer days
As we get into spring we find we still need our wellies and waterproofs but alas the sunny days are coming! We aim to have a box of sun hats but if your child would prefer their own then please pack it, along with suncream. We provide sun cream on days it is left at home (Jason Family sun cream factor 45) but as before, if you have a personal preference or if your child has sensitive skin, please provide your own more suitable sun cream. Although we provide sun cream the best kind of protection is clothing so ensuring your child has loose fitting clothing is recommended.
Spare clothes
We aim to have a supply of spare clothes on hand for those unexpected moments but we know that children prefer to have their own spare clothes. It may be because we are outside playing with water or things may just get a bit muddy. We know that especially if your child is toilet training a supply of clean clothes is essential so please pack accordingly. m description

For children that are with us during the morning or full-day sessions, we provide a healthy, nutritious organic snack at £1 per session. We have found that it is beneficial and bonding for the children to sit down and eat the same food together once a day. This snack charge is applicable to all children attending during the mornings.
The children usually have food left uneaten from lunch which we offer them if they are hungry in the afternoon, but please feel free to include a healthy, sugar-free snack in their lunchboxes for the afternoons if you prefer.
-
No. We do not have the kitchen or catering facilities to provide lunch so we ask that parents provide a packed lunch. At Tiny Wilds we encourage healthy eating and a well balanced diet. In order to keep children’s sugar levels balanced we ask that you try not to pack any sugary snacks or sugary food in their lunch box. If your child is attending a full-day or afternoon session, please prepare a packed lunch for them to have at Tiny Wilds.
Healthy food items might include:
Pasta with vegetables
Sandwiches; ham, cheese, egg, tomato,
Veggie or meat noodles
Veggie or meat wraps
Tuna and/ or bean salad
Roasted chicken strips
Cous-cous with beans / pulses / veg
Frittata
Carrot / cucumber sticks and hummus
Grapes / berries / raisins / apples / oranges
Natural yogurt
Toasted seeds
From a food safety perspective we only have a small fridge in our yurt so please be sure to include a reusable ice pack to keep food cool if it seems necessary.

At Tiny Wilds our compost toilet is located at the bottom of our garden. We are aware that not all children will have used a compost toilet before. If a child is new to our setting and unaccustomed to using a compost toilet, a member of staff will help them become familiar until they are comfortable to use it safely and independently. Our nappy changing area will be situated in the compost toilet and so it may be that a child needs to use the toilet whilst a child is having their nappy changed. Nappy changes may take place discreetly in the yurt away from other children when temperatures are too low. Transparency must be maintained at all times and if an adult accompanies a child to the toilet, staff should not enter the toilet with the child if the child is independent and able to use alone and must remain within sight of other staff at all times.
-
The Tiny Wilds team are committed to helping you and your child transition away from nappies and towards using the toilet / potty. Working closely with your child, we appreciate knowing where along the journey your child might be and so please make us aware of any developments your child has so we can best support them and you. The compost toilet has a potty available at all times.

Requests to change regular attendance must be given through a Sessions Change Request Form with a minimum of 4 weeks’ notice. Please email us at tinywildsinfo@gmail.com and request this form if you would like to change the number of sessions you would like your child to attend at Tiny Wilds.
Changes to attendance may only be made a maximum of once per half term.
-
To withdraw a child from Tiny Wilds, notice must be made in writing with 4 weeks’ notice. Failure to give 4 weeks' notice to withdraw will result in full fees being due until the notice period ends (i.e. for 4-weeks from when you let us know you would like to withdraw your child). Where a child is funded and withdrawing from their place, Tiny Wilds will continue to claim the funding for the full 4-week notice period, whether or not the child is attending. If parents intend to claim funding elsewhere, they will need to inform their new setting of this.
Tiny Wilds will also give 4 weeks’ notice in writing to clients, where adjustments to attendance, request for withdrawal of place or other changes will be occurring
